Karaganda Regional Museum of Fine Arts

The museum is one of the leading cultural centers of the region and the only museum of its kind in Central Kazakhstan. Founded in 1988, it currently houses an extensive collection that reflects the development of Kazakhstani art and world artistic heritage. Key Collections and Areas of Focus: Art of Kazakhstan: The museum’s holdings include works by classics of national painting, graphics, and sculpture (such as A. Kasteyev, G. Ismailova, S. Kalmykov, and others). A special place is reserved for the works of Karaganda artists who formed a unique local school. Collection of Karlag Artists: This is the most unique and tragic part of the museum’s collection. The museum carefully preserves the works of professional artists who were imprisoned in the Karaganda Labor Camp (Karlag). These pieces possess immense historical and artistic significance. Contemporary Art: The museum actively supports young artists and annually hosts exhibitions of contemporary art, installations, and applied arts. Activities: Exhibitions: The museum regularly organizes solo, thematic, and international exhibitions. Education: The museum provides lectures, masterclasses for children and adults, guided tours, and creative meetings with artists. Research: Activities include the study of regional artistic processes and the restoration of items from the museum’s collection.
